Conceptual Approach: We designed and constructed a garment for all actors to wear as a base layer. It was 1)made with a range of linen blends to give textural and tonal variety to the cast members 2)shaped to suggest a knee-length tunic top 3)curved-out at the hip to suggest Elizabethan breeches as well as a variety of period shapes. All male and female actors wore the same tunic with tights, to create a gender-neutral look. Actors added additional costume pieces, including corsets, headwear, capes, jackets, and shawls, to denote period and defining character details.
Short Play Synopsis: A young noblewoman from the court of Queen Elizabeth I travels through time as a poet and lover, changing gender preferences along the way.
